Hello, and thank you for visiting my profile, and considering me to transport your precious cargo! I'm an 58 year old Mom, currently living in Northern Virginia with my awesome partner Tim. I've been transporting dogs and cats on Citizen Shipper now for several months, and I also have some experience transporting rescue animals for 2 local rescue groups, as a volunteer. I love animals and donate my time whenever possible to saving them from high kill shelters to other towns where they have a better chance to be adopted or have foster homes waiting for them. My career for the past 20 plus years had been in smaller, local nonprofits, mostly running the resale shops. Running the business side of it (it may be a nonprofit, but the shops need to make money to support the organization!), managing the staff and volunteers. Some volunteers were there because they just enjoyed it and wanted to support the organization, some were students needing hours for school/church/etc., but most were community service volunteers who were court ordered to do volunteer hours for some infraction, like a speeding ticket. I affectionately call them my "naughty kids". I now spend my time taking as many road trips as I can, mostly to hike and visit National Parks, and spending time in my workshop, refinishing and upcycling furniture. I'm passionate about saving good but ugly furniture from the landfill and making it attractive and useful again. I enjoy travel, seeing everything there is to see, cooking with my son and his girlfriend back home in the Chicago area, spending lots of time with my partner, Tim and his adult son Connor, who has Down Syndrome. Connor is a movie buff and knows the words to every Christmas song I can find to play for him. Tim is training to be a dog trainer and works at a local K9 training and boarding center. He was in the Army as a K9 handler back in the day, has a prosthetic leg, can still hike, swim and mostly keep up with me, and he may occasionally be able to join me to transport items for Citizen Shipper. I'm a foodie, love the beach and the mountains, but mostly the beach, a good cook, care deeply for my fellow human beings and for animals of all types. Every living creature has a purpose and a place in this world/food chain, even if they are ugly and creepy - LOL! As far as transporting your beloved animal, I would love to be considered. District Attorney Turned Dog Rescuer Amidst the pandemic I, like many people, found myself without a job and stuck in pandemic lock down for months on end. After months of stillness and uncertainty, I had enough of sitting around waiting for something to happen. Having purchased my first National Parks pass the week pandemic lock downs began, I was eager to get my money’s worth from my newly acquired pass. As many national parks and forest began reopening and having been confined to my house and limited walks around the neighborhood for three months, I thought a few nights in the woods and under the stars would do me some good. In June of 2020 I set out for the Buffalo National River where I would spend five days and nights along the river banks, reacquainting myself with nature. As the weekend approached, I spoke with friends back home to see if there were any mentions of pandemic restrictions easing. The news from home was not positive, and I had a decision to make. In 9 hours, I could be back home, back to comforts and familiarity, back to my old life, back to the mundane. In 10 hours, I could be in the Colorado Rockies, into the unknown, into the wild, complete uncertainty, but endless possibilities for adventure. I chose the latter and the rest is history. For the next three months I would travel over 20,000 miles through some of the most beautiful and isolated parts of this country. Every day spent completely out of my comfort zone, every day a new life lesson, a summer of wonder, and the rarity of feeling truly alive. Prior to the pandemic I was already well aware that my heart was no longer in practicing law. Every day spent doing it was day spent doing something I did not like doing, something writer and orator Alan Watts referred to as “STUPID!”. No longer wishing to be “stupid” I set out in search of a career unburdened by the mundane. I wanted a life of adventure, filled with joy, and feeling alive. Farrah was one of 5 puppies from the litter that needed to be delivered to forever homes. I drove from Wisconsin to Texas, then to Pennsylvania, then to New York, and then back to Wisconsin, and then back to Texas. And I loved it! The experience brought together two loves of my life, driving and animals. It makes my heart smile to see the joy on people's faces when they receive their pets. I know entrusting your furry loved ones to someone else can be scary. Rest assured I will care for your pets as if they are mine. I am fully licensed, insured, USDA registered, Pet CPR and First Aid Certified. I am an owner operated business and transport less than 5 animals at a time, usually it's two additional riders plus Farrah. This insures that each pet gets the attention the require. Once the animal is picked up you will receive a confirmation photo/video and a live GPS link to follow our journey. During transit, we stop every three to four hours for a stretch and potty break. You will receive photo and video updates along the way. At delivery I take your photo with your pet and send it to you so you can remember reuniting with them always. Your animal can be transported in a crate or by seat belt. I have small, medium, large and extra large crates available to transport. Crates and bedding are cleaned, washed, and sanitized after each animal to prevent cross-contamination. Puppies without all vaccinations and boosters will not be permitted to be on the ground.
