Prepping Your Car for Shipping
There are a few steps you need to take before your car can be loaded up and transported across the country.
- It needs to weigh as little as possible; this improves the hauling vehicle’s gas mileage.
- Check for fluid leaks so it doesn’t drip onto cars below it on the trailer.
- Properly inflate the tires.
- The fuel tank should have no more than a quarter tank of gas — but make sure there’s enough fuel for the transporter to drive it on and off the carrier.
- Remove all aftermarket items like antennas, fog lights and spoilers.
- Securely close all windows.
- If you have a soft top convertible, secure it properly before shipping.
- Take your time to give the car a thorough cleaning and basic maintenance check.
- Inspect your car for any existing damage and take pictures of the damage. Document the car's condition before it is transported and take pictures of any pre-existing damage to avoid any disputes or misunderstandings.
