“Well, after spending almost 25 years in the automotive industry, I was finally able to retire from that job. My wife and I knew that we wanted to travel the country and see what all we could find, but we’re never really sure how to make that financially happen,” Jason recounts. Jason’s first experience with CitizenShipper was nothing short of fantastic. “My first experience was awesome: the pets were awesome, the drive was awesome, and of course, the customer was awesome,” he recalls enthusiastically. One story stands out vividly in his memory. “My very first shipment, I was a little nervous about how the customers would react and everything like that. But they were just so kind and nice along the way. And then once I got there and opened the back of the car, they saw two little puppies. That was just a heartwarming moment because you could see the tears and happiness on their faces.”

Jason’s primary vehicle for transport is a 2021 Chevrolet Equinox, and he goes to great lengths to ensure the safety and comfort of his furry passengers. “I make sure that I have the proper crate available that has enough room and keeps them completely safe. I try to provide them with toys or something to play with or chew on. I always stop every 2 to 3 hours, depending on each individual animal,” Jason explains. His dedication to the well-being of the pets in his care is evident in every aspect of his service.
Communication with Pet Owners
For Jason, communication is key to reassuring pet owners and making them feel involved in the journey. “I make it a routine to update them every 2 to 3 hours with pictures, videos, location updates, just to make them feel like they’re part of the journey as well. And of course, to let them know that their pet is safe and sound with me along this journey,” Jason says. He uses a variety of communication methods, including text messages, FaceTime, GPS tracking, phone calls, and plenty of pictures and videos.
Navigating and Handling Unexpected Situations
With his wife as his passenger, Jason is well-prepared to handle any unexpected situations that may arise on the road. “Luckily, with my wife as my passenger, she keeps an eye out for all road closures and construction. She has an amazing way of finding a way around,” Jason shares. They also carry essential emergency supplies, including a first aid kit, jump box, jumper cables, tire inflator kit, and miscellaneous tools to ensure they’re ready for any situation.
Overcoming Challenges and Goals for the Future
Jason hasn’t faced significant challenges in his transport journeys yet, but he remains prepared for anything that comes his way. Looking to the future, he hopes to expand his services and potentially transport other items like boats, cars, motorcycles, and apartment furniture. “But right now, this is perfect for me,” he says with contentment. He also aspires to have multiple drivers working with him, expanding his reach and capabilities within the CitizenShipper community.
