## Our Story

#### How it started
As a graduate student at Baylor University, Richard Obousy (CitizenShipper founder and CEO) wondered how he could make a little extra money for gas each month by transporting things for people with the spare capacity in his vehicle. He often drove with an empty trunk and back seat, and it made sense that if he was already driving, why not help someone out and take something along while earning extra cash?
He started to think bigger. How many millions of people in the country were like him, driving with spare space in their vehicle? This was the seed of the idea that led to an early version of CitizenShipper, launched on a budget of just $2,000.
The earliest version of our site simply connected people with things to ship with people who could do the shipping — there were no added features such as messaging and driver profiles.
